Lytro unveiled World’s First Light Field Camera

Lytro reveals a new type of camera capable of capturing all the rays of light in a scene rather than focused “pixels” like others. It enables you to capture a scene just as you see it and then focus and re-focus, anywhere in the picture.

The working is as follows,it utilizes a “11 Megarays” light field sensor that collects the color, intensity, and the direction of every light ray flowing into the camera, capturing a scene in four dimensions, and then save all this information in HD-quality interactive, living pictures (.lfp format) on the internal memory. The sensor is combined with a special light field engine that allows refocusing of the pictures directly on the camera.



Sharing the captured image is an easy thing, the light field engine associated with each picture helps this with any device, including web browsers, mobile phones, and tablets, without the need of downloading any special software. The company also promises that will release a special light field algorithms that will allow viewing of the pictures in 3D and to enable viewers to shift the perspective of the scene.

The camera measures 41 mm x 41 mm x 112 mm and has an extruded anodized aluminum casing which packs 8x optical zoom and f/2 lens, and has just two buttons — power and shutter. On the back it is equipped with 1.46-inch back-lit LCD touchscreen display that lets you view your captured pictures and re-focus directly on the camera.

The Lytro camera is available in two models, a 8GB (in Electric Blue or Graphitecolors) which will cost you $399 and can store 350 pictures, and a 16GB (Red Hot) model for $499 that can hold 750 pictures. The cameras are now available for pre-orders and will ship in early 2012.

Canon PowerShot SX150 IS by early September for $250

The PowerShot SX150 IS has 14.1-million pixel CCD sensor backed by Canon’s DIGIC 4 optical Image Processor and comes along with a 12x optical zoom with 28mm wide-angle lens. It has 3-inch LCD screen, new Intelligent Image Stabilization(IS) system that automatically selects from seven different modes.

PowerShot SX150 IS also features Face Detection, Advanced Subject Detection technology, Smart AUTO with 32 shooting scenes, High-Speed Burst mode, 720p HD video recording, aperture- and shutter-priority modes, a discrete-shooting mode.

Canon PowerShot SX150 IS will be available in black and red at the beginning of September for $249.99.

The Fujifilm FinePix is a 10-megapixel camera camera intended for photographing at less than optimum conditions. The FinePix Z33WP is Fujifilm’s first waterproof digital camera & can be used at a maximum of 10 feet deep and continuously for 2 hours. Because of this the camera cannot be used for taking pics deep under water for long time, but it is quite suitable in conditions like dusty, dirty and damp region.
The Z33WP uses a Fujinon 3x optical zoom lens with a 2.7-inch, 230,000 pixel resolution LCD screen making it ease to outdoor navigation. Light in weight, this is rather portable and can be carried along on the go. It is designed for plain photography & is not fast enough and takes about 3.5 seconds to take one picture right after another.

The Blog Mode allows easier sharing and is possible to resize a photo to a standard 640x480 pixels (VGA) or 320x240 pixels (QVGA) image size. It also has 12 in-camera editing features such as Zooming, Miniature effect, Illustration and Painting, cutting the need for extra time with home editing.

The ‘Automatic Scene Recognition’ SR AUTO mode enables the camera to intelligently recognize six types of scenes automatically. For each picture the camera will optimize the ideal exposure, focus, white balance and ISO for the scene to ensure the best quality image. Face Detection Technology identifies up to 10 human faces in a scene, and sets the correct focus and exposure, removing red eyes and self-corrects, regardless of where subjects are located within the frame. This saves time spend on post-editing.

Other options includes the 'Couple Timer Mode’ that detects two faces and the ‘Group Timer Mode' up to four faces in a frame. The One Touch MOVIE Button captures VGA quality movie clips at 30 frames per second with sound to capture all of those once-in-a-lifetime moments. Panorama Shooting Mode allows stitching three photos together to create a panoramic image.

The controls are not the same as of other cameras. Both the power button and the shutter release button are at the top which may confuse you in the beginning. Provides at the bottom right is a button that enables the camera to change from image mode to the video mode taking 3 to 4 seconds for switching. This small and a stylish camera come with a wide range of color options including black, pink, green etc.
