SHARP comes with world’s most efficient solar cell

This new solar cell is a triple-layer cell with conversion efficiency of 36.9 percent, which is the highest till date.


Based on triple-junction compound technology (similar to the solar cells used in NASA’s Mars rovers) the Compound solar cells put together photo-absorption layers that consist of at least two or more chemical elements. As a rule, such solar cells use rather expensive materials such as indium and gallium and have been so far used mainly in application areas such as satellites.

SHARP is planning to make this available in consumer markets by implementing the new cell in affordable solar cell products. Currently no news about when it is available, may be sooner.

Sony's bendable OTFT display


Sony's Shows off flexible electronic paper (e-paper) that is driven by OTFT( Organic Thin Film Transistor )display technology behind closed doors at last week's SID conference in LA, including a color unit and the extremely flexible black and white e-paper display seen above, which can be bent to a 5mm curvature radius. The 13.3-inch sheet offers 1200x1600 (150ppi) resolution, 10:1 contrast ratio, 16 shades of gray and is powered by organic TFTs. Sony showed off and bent the thing at the show, reportedly to the cheers of the crowd in attendance.

Peri-Xanthenoxanthene (PXX) was used for the semiconductor layer of the organic TFT. The semiconductor layer and all the insulating layers are manufactured with a spin coating method using solution.It uses E Ink Corp's electrophoretic front plane laminate.

Roof coating 'Coolwrap' reduces indoor room temperatures

A vadodara based firm called Aesthetic Solutions has already developed and tried this technology named as Coolwrap, in various constructions and came up with successful results.

The company uses nano-technology and infrared reflective technology to keep a building cooler without using any solvents.The Coolwrap keeps a building at 14 degrees cooler.
Accroding to Neetu Jain, founder Aesthetic Solutions "coating on a RCC roof will reduce temperature in the range of 6-10 degrees Celsius, whereas, coating on a metal roof will reduce temperature in the range of 6-16 degrees Celsius. It also helps in reducing insulation (false roof) in the houses from 6 inches to 1 inch".

The company(Aesthetic Solutions) that is into insulation, roofing solutions, water-proofing, reflective cooling technology was awarded the best start-up firm at a 15-day workshop at CIIE in October 2010.

Sharp shows of World’s First Super Hi-Vision HDTV - The TV of the future



Sharp joined hands with Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) on 1995 to come out with this ultra high definition TV. It means that what you are watching currently in HD are nothing compared to this- a mater piece with a resolution of 7680x4320p with 103ppi that means we are currently watching videos one sixteenth of this TV's clarity.This ultra-HD format undergoes tests in the 2012 Olympics, NHK says it plans to begin trial broadcasts via satellite in 2020. The prototype they displayed is of 85 inch monitor with 33,177,600 pixels, Sharp calls it SUPER HI-VISION.It also features 10-bit color depth, though only a 60Hz refresh rate.

In-order to get an idea about this TV you can think of like this, today’s HDTV resolution makes you to recognize faces in the crowd, whereas Super Hi-Vision allows you to identify easily whether the pupils in the eyes of one of those faces are dilated.NHK won’t be showing any trial broadcasts in Super Hi-Vision until 2020.
